New Traffic Configuration for Utility Work York Gate Blvd. and Finch Ave. W. Stage 2

What?
As part of preparatory works for the Finch West LRT line, crews are installing a new sanitary sewer, storm sewer and watermain in the York Gate Blvd in three stages. Stage 1 of the work began in mid-July and stage 2 will begin in early August 2020.

Each stage will last approximately one (1) month. To minimize traffic congestion during the various stages of construction, the crew will reconfigure traffic several times at York Gate Blvd. and Finch Ave. W. See maps above for traffic, transit, and pedestrian changes to expect during Stage 2. Details for stage 3 will be shared soon.

Starting in early August 2020, crews will install a storm sewer at York Gate Blvd. and Finch Ave. W.

WORKS:

  • The crew will dig trenches and install storm sewer pipes in the vicinity of York Gate Blvd. and Finch Ave. W.
  • Then, the City of Toronto will conduct pressure testing, cleaning, and inspection of the new pipes prior to final connections; they will leave behind the existing pipes.
  • Last, the crew will backfill, regrade, and pave the excavated area.

WORK HOURS:

  • Monday to Friday from 7 AM to 7 PM. Work will occur during the overnight, as required.
  • Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • There will be water shut offs or lower than usual water pressure. If any, affected properties will be notified separately, in advance.
  • Heavy trucks and equipment in the area.
  • Some dust and noise related to construction.
  • Expect traffic delays near work zones.

TRAFFIC DETAILS:

  • Lane closures are required to safely conduct the work.
  • At least one lane in each direction will be maintained.
  • Elana Dr. will be closed sometime during this stage. Please follow any direction provided by a Paid Duty Officer. Advance notice will be provided.
  • Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained.
  • Access to businesses will be maintained.
  • Please allow extra time for your journey.

PEDESTRIAN AND TRANSIT DETAILS:

  • Pedestrian access will be maintained.
  • Please take extra care when walking near work zones, and always make eye contact with the driver.
  • TTC bus stops will be closed or relocated away from work zones, as needed.
  • Relocation of bus stops is done in consultation with TTC.
  • Access to TTC will be maintained where necessary.
