What is a BIA
A Business Improvement Area (BIA) is an association of business people within a specified district who join together, with the official approval of the City, in a self-help program aimed at stimulating local business. The BIA uses its own money in an ongoing effort to draw more prospective customers to the area by improving the attractiveness of the area and promoting it as a good place to shop, visit and do business. Once a BIA is approved by City Council, every business within its boundaries automatically becomes a member.
The Ontario BIA Association (OBIAA), since 2001, acts as an important resource for education, partnership and collaboration to each BIA across the province. OBIAA recognizes the power of networking, the strength in numbers and the value of sharing common concerns and finding resolutions specific to our individual communities.
